Stagekids Alumni Gets Hired to Act at Fireside Dinner Theater

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

12 year old Mequon resident and NSAA Stagekids Alumni, Mari Duckler, is rapidly becoming well known throughout SE Wisconsin as a highly skilled young actress. She recently landed a professional acting position at the Fireside Dinner Theater in Fort Atkinson, WI. Mari will be the lead supporting role, “Pepper” in the Fireside’s upcoming production of Annie. The Fireside Dinner Theater attracts national audiences as a professional theater each year.

Mari first came to NSAA as a 9 year old seeking private vocal instruction with vocal coach, Angela Mack. From there, she auditioned for the NSAA Stagekids Production of High School Musical and was surprisingly cast as the lead role of “Sharpay Evans”. She was also “Lily St. Regis” (Annie) and “Phineous Trout” (Willy Wonka) through NSAA Stagekids.

Since then, Mari has performed at Homestead High School Auditorium, Range Line Auditorium, Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, Marcus Center for the Performing Arts and has appeared in the film, “The Bully”.

Quite spectacular about Mari’s experience is that she was recently cast as the highly competitive and lead role “Junie B.” (Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business) at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.

Mari will also soon be performing as “Ady” in Miss Nelson is Missing at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts.  She is currently taking private tap/ballet at NSAA with Miss Kathleen Fictum so that she is a “triple threat” to the world of musical theater.

Mari dreams of performing on Broadway someday.  At this rate, she just might!  Keep your eye on this petite and spunky soprano belter!

Catering the Arts to Your Location

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Perhaps you may not know that North Shore Academy of the Arts (NSAA) expands far beyond the reach of our Grafton facility.  Our instructors have been traveling to other cities for quite some time to bring PREMIER ARTS ENRICHMENT PROGRAMMING in the visual, performing and literary arts.

NSAA has brought fine visual and performing arts programming to Bayshore Town Center in Bayshore.  Our Stagekids directors have been traveling to the Hartford Schauer Center for several seasons putting on high quality productions.  Our instructors have taught music and drama in Pre-K facilities in Mequon and Germantown.   Our performers have performed in Cedarburg, Mequon and Bayshore for various key events.  We have gone into public  schools to present assemblies and have fulfilled the need for arts enrichment in a private Milwaukee high school.   We have worked with Nicolet and Homestead high schools.

With the 10 year anniversary of NSAA, we expect to continue expanding to fulfill the need for high quality arts programming in Wisconsin.  We are excited to launch our 2010-11 season.  If you would like for us to join you at your facility, in your community, on site at your location please email info@northshoreacademyofthearts.org  attn: Sheri or Paula to discuss your specific arts needs.  For more on CATERING THE ARTS grab a brochure!

Introducing Leading Female BECCA!

Friday, February 12th, 2010

“Becca” began with NSAA Stagekids when she was just a small child.  The first show that she was in was the “WIZARD OF OZ”.   After almost a decade and many, many more shows at NSAA, Becca ended her last Stagekids role as “Dorothy” in the WIZARD OF OZ.

Becca is returning for NSAA’s 10 year anniversary production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” as one of the lead narrators.  This is despite the fact that she is also the lead role at Mequon Homestead High School’s production of “Annie Get Your Gun”.  As if that weren’t enough, she has some other major “out of state” auditions coming up.  “I’m never home,” Becca told us last night.  She works hard and her dreams are big.

Becca is is a shining star of NSAA.  She is a great student, role model, hard-working, ambitious and talented young girl who has an amazing future in front of her.  Keep your eyes on this gal.  She is going places!  And NSAA is glad to have had a part in developing the talents that she exudes today.

Please go see Homestead High School’s “Annie Get Your Gun” Feb. 25-28 then a month later our 10 year Anniversary “Joseph” Production at the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center March 25-28.

As always, thank you for supporting the arts.  Arts programs build strong leaders such as this fine young lady.

Where Did NSAA begin 10 years ago?

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Note from the Founder

In the midst of North Shore Academy of the Art, Inc.’s grand 10 year celebration, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on where it all began: sitting in a dark theatre, watching a musical.  It was my husband’s and my first outing after our daughter was born, so I was a bit nervous to be gone for any length of time. Nonetheless, we sat back to enjoy as the curtains were opened.

The musical was “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” The producers of the musical set out to entertain their audience, and maybe to do a bit more….The talents on stage made the audience laugh. They made the audience cry. Some left smiling. Some left humming the tunes. At least one left inspired — Inspired enough to share thoughts  with others.   Then others began to imagine…

Together, and 10 years later… there is another team of producers, another cast of talented actors on stage, in a dark theatre… where the curtains will open…On the weekend of March  25th, right here in Cedarburg, NSAA will be producing “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” in celebration for what that show helped create 10 years ago. We chose this show because it has a great message, wonderful music and it inspires. We chose this musical to  entertain… and to do maybe a bit more…

Besides our shows, we have other offerings that do “a bit more”: our art classes, music lessons, dance teams, writing workshops… the list goes on. The opportunities abound at chances to imagine, to create, to discover…

One never knows what will foster a dream, a thought or an action. I didn’t know that night when I sat down in the theatre that I would leave 90 minutes later with an urge that wouldn’t be still, that wouldn’t relent, until it was acted upon.

At NSAA, we hope that everyday, in some way, in some capacity, at least one person walks away imagining…And so what does that mean for the next 10 years of NSAA?  At least 3,650-dreams born into the world, relentless, urging inspiration…I hope you’ll join me “in the theatre” as the curtains open.

Here’s to the next decade of inspiration. To your dreams, coming in loud and clear…Imagine. Discover. Create. Dream. That’s North Shore Academy ofthe Arts, Inc. I thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Sheri M. Bestor, Founder, President North Shore Academy of the Arts, Inc.

Composer and performer Kurt Bestor brings his popular Christmas show to Wisconsin with a performance at Cedarburg’s beautful Performing Arts Center.

For only the second time, Bestor returns to his home state to perform the unique holiday arrangements that have made him a crowd favorite throughout the west for almost three decades.

Though he’s known for his expert piano, trumpet, harmonica playing as well as many other instruments, Bestor is just as adept with his engaging onstage banter.

The Kurt Bestor Trio with award-winning guitarist Michael Dowdle and talented multiinstrumentalist Daron Bradford will take the audience on a musical journey from Christmas’s past to today’s holiday favorites in a myriad of styles – from jazz and new age to world and classical.
