The North Shore Academy of the Arts (NSAA) has a top notch Dance Department for a wide variety of ages.  Levels range from beginners to advanced with some competing in competitions.  NSAA has just released its Summer 2012 Programs, Classes & Events containing classes in the visual, literary and performing arts for all ages. This summer, the NSAA Dance Department will be offering:

Ballet Princesses Dance Camp for the potty trained

Hip Hop-Level: MTV (Intermediate/Advanced) ages 14 and up

Hip Hop-Level:  Commercial (Beginning) ages 14 and up

Ballerina Superstars ages 5-7

Ballet & Lyrical (Intermediate/Advanced) ages 12-16

Jazzista Rock Stars ages 6-9

Jazz it Up ages 12 and up

Private Dance Lessons for ages 6 and up

Animals on the Move ages 4-6

Premier Dance Company Professional Performing & Competitive Dance Company ages 10-18

Mommy and Me ages 2-3

Stomping Out Rhythms ages 5-7

Andrew Minkin is a sixteen year old from Mequon who became involved with the North Shore Academy of the Arts (NSAA) when he was in 3^rd grade.  Since then, he has been in at least nine NSAA productions.

Recently, Andrew played the lead role of Pippin in Homestead High School’s Pippin.  This year, the regional Solo Ensemble competition was held at Homestead High School.  Andrew sang three solos and was in five ensembles.  Of those eight songs, Andrew received seven “One Stars” which is the highest rating that can be obtained.

Some of his solos included “Corner of the Sky” from Pippin, “Bright is the Ring of Words” by Von Williams and “Pie Jesu” by Bethany Zamora.

Andrew continues to be an asset to NSAA as a volunteer in the performing arts and marketing departments.  Currently, he is assisting as a vocal coach and director’s assistant in NSAA’s Stagekids Production of Seussical.  Andrew also works at The Rave/Eagles Club in Milwaukee as a marketing assistant promoting Rap shows and working with their booking agent.

Andrew would like to pursue musical theater as an actor after high school.  He has been looking at Oklahoma University as well as Boise State University.  He is currently auditioning for the Sound of Music at the Skylight Musical Theatre in Milwaukee.

NSAA is proud of Andrew and the leader that he has become and wishes him success in all that he does.  We see a bright future for him!  Imagine…Discover…Create…Dream Andrew!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Jerusalem, Israel) Mequon native Talia Lakritz, former NSAA Gleek Club member and singer/songwriter student of NSAA instructor Angela Mack is making a musical mark in Israel.  After she graduated from high school, she decided to go oversees for a year and spend some time in Jerusalem.  She has been involved with writing more music, winning awards and benefiting underprivileged women in Israel.  We are very proud of her! Her singing group recently won FIRST PLACE in the KEDMA competition!

She writes Ms. Mack, “I’ve been involved in so many musical projects lately!  I’ve written more songs since I’ve been here, and I won studio time in an auction that we had so I’ll be able to record some of them! And girl in my apartment plays guitar and writes her own songs, so we’ve been working on one together.

I also co-headed my school’s choir for an inter-seminary competition. The event was last night, and guess what? We won!! I wrote part of the song and helped compile the rest of it (we used a few existing tunes) and teach it so it was very validating. I attached a picture of us with our award. The performance was set in the times of the Holy Temple, with priests dancing the Temple service. I hope we can meet again when I come back in June! -Talia”

I’m so proud of the cast and crew of Beauty and the Beast, both the CPAC team and the Schauer Center Team! When I see everyone working together I’m reminded again about the impact of our mission– to reach even beyond the arts. 

We are nearing our grand opening of the Arts Mill. I look forward to our community enjoying this new division of NSAA. We still have opportunities to volunteer and donate. Our Kids4Kids project will be launched soon. Kids4Kids is a program where Homestead High School Students work together with the mission of helping foster kids. We will be joining them in an exciting venture that will culminate in a presentation for the community. Stay tuned for more information. 

Camp Rock and Hairspray are beginning within the next two weeks. I’m looking forward to being more involved in these shows as our focus at NSAA continues to be on programming through enriching opportunities.

Thousands competed.  But ten year old Liora Bushee won the award for the National Menorah Essay Contest. This incredible win landed her near the White House giving a speech to an audience of thousands.   The event was covered by CNN and can be seen 17 minutes into the video on this website.

Liora presented her speech, titled “Light” on the first day of Chanukah for the Annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony in Washington DC on Dec. 1.

She confidently spoke, “Light can easily overcome darkness.  The darkness is the bad and mean things in this world and light is happiness and joy.
