Happy February! From NSAA Founder/CEO Sheri Bestor

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

I’m so proud of the cast and crew of Beauty and the Beast, both the CPAC team and the Schauer Center Team! When I see everyone working together I’m reminded again about the impact of our mission– to reach even beyond the arts.

We are nearing our grand opening of the Arts Mill. I look forward to our community enjoying this new division of NSAA. We still have opportunities to volunteer and donate. There are two naming rights still available. (Send me an email if you are interested in learning more about this sherib@northshoreacademyofthearts.org).

Our Kids4Kids project will be launched soon. Kids4Kids is a program where Homestead High School Students work together with the mission of helping foster kids. We will be joining them in an exciting venture that will culminate in a presentation for the community. Stay tuned for more information.

Camp Rock and Hairspray are beginning within the next two weeks. I’m looking forward to being more involved in these shows as our focus at NSAA continues to be on programming through enriching opportunities.

Visual Arts, Imagine Me, Dance Classes, Zumba, upcoming UBM and Yoga, CCC and Paul McGill.   (He’s coming this Monday–you won’t want to miss it)….we strive to offer you a wide array of opportunities in the arts so that there is something for everyone!

As winter continues to blow its beauty, I hope you are able to find the moments to appreciate your unique creativity and how it helps you to see the world in vivid light.

“When we are writing, or painting, or composing, we are, during the time of creativity, freed from normal restrictions, and are opened to a wider world, where colors are brighter, sounds clearer, and people more wondrously complex than we normally realize.”Madeleine L’Engle

The Momentum is Building

Monday, November 15th, 2010

It’s an exciting time for NSAA as we progress forward with The Arts Mill. The momentum is building as more people come forth wanting to be involved.

Our productions of Beauty and the Beast are well underway. The young performers have been enjoying the time during rehearsal when they are able to work with the various crew on blocking, choreography, vocals and skill building through the drama games. We are happy to see the growth and enthusiasm with this new structure of rehearsals.

Spaces are going quickly for Broadway and Movie performer, Paul McGill’s workshop in February.   Camp Rock and Hairspray production opportunities are being met with lots of excitement around the community. Don’t miss out on any of these opportunities to register.

Finally, as we continue to expand and refine our programming, internally we continue to learn and grow with the organization as a whole. We’ll be making two exciting announcements soon about the Board of Directors. I’m excited to share this with you within the next two weeks.

Thanks for the positive feedback you’ve been sharing with us.

And, as always, thanks for your support.

News From the Founder “Our Trip to New York City”

Monday, November 1st, 2010

On a personal note, my family and I were fortunate enough to be able to visit New York City this weekend. One of the reasons we went was to visit two friends of NSAA: Rebecca Hare, alum as long time student and performer with NSAA. She is attending school in New York and it was terrific to catch up with her. We are so proud of all of her accomplishments and her desire to keep realizing her dreams through the arts.

And then Paul McGill, a newer friend to NSAA, he was our celebrity guest at Starlight Night last year and has joined our artistic advisory board.

My family and I went to the musical “Memphis” which is the show Paul is performing in on Broadway. Knowing Paul and what he’s involved in, I did expect the show to be terrific but it was beyond that. The dancing, singing, characterization telling the  story of Memphis was moving, to say the least. I left re-inspired on how the arts can be such a potent form of communication and how important it is for our culture and for our own souls.

Paul’s individual contribution to the show was nothing short of amazing. Obviously, the fact that he’s been in movies and on Broadway and in tv shows indicates that he has talent, but watching him on stage was truly an experience. He can fly as he dances, move as fluidly as the wind and has the energy that I always ask our young performers to give to their performances.

What’s more beautiful yet is Paul’s belief in what he does and his interest in sharing his gifts. I’m so proud to announce that he’ll be coming to NSAA on February 7th to teach, choreograph and share his insights into the world of performing arts. It’s a two hour workshop you won’t want to miss. Spaces are limited so look to register for this in our upcoming winter/spring brochure, soon to be released. How often do we have a chance to be taught by a performer on Broadway? We are grateful….

Finally, we do have one more exciting project that we are working on, in the visual arts department. I can’t wait to share it with you, and as soon as the details are finalized, I will. So please stay tuned, and thanks again for your continuous support.

Blessings,
Sheri
