2012 Seussical Opens Up to High Schoolers

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Target Ages: 2nd grade-12th grade

A delight for youth to perform, Seussical is now one of  the most-performed shows in America!  In this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza, Tony winners Lynn Ahrens  and Stephen Flaherty have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big  imagination–Jojo. “Oh, the Thinks You Can Think” captures the show’s spirit of imagination, as the colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos. General fee includes costume fee but does not include $30 Script & CD Fee. No Refunds, no exceptions.

Seussical Auditions: January 17, 2012 4:30-8:30
Seussical Rehearsals: Tuesday evenings 6-8pm beginning January 24, 2012
Show dates: March 30- April 1st 2012

Fifty Five NSAA Jr. Stagekids Present ANNIE Kids December 5

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

GRAFTON, WI

For Immediate Release

Contact 1.262.377.3514 or info@northshoreacademyofthearts.org

Photo Opportunity:  November 21 or November 28 between 5pm and 7:30pm, 1111 Broad Street Grafton WI

Fifty five southeastern Wisconsin children, ages 6 to 11, will be presenting the musical ANNIE Kids on December 5 at 5pm and 7pm.  The musical will be about 45 minutes long and held at the North Shore Academy of the Arts (NSAA), 1111 Broad Street Grafton, WI.  Admission is free and open to the public however donations will be collected at the door.

The musical consists of two casts.  The “Green Cast” will perform at 5pm and contains thirty three cast members.  The “Purple Cast” will perform at 7pm and contains twenty two cast members.

The NSAA Jr. Stagekids Program is directed by Angela Mack who is also the Marketing Director for NSAA.  “The Jr. Stagekids program is part of a spiraling and growing musical curriculum at NSAA.  Typically children enter through our Pre-K “Imagine Me” program, move onto “Stage-Kinder-Kids”, then Jr. Stagekids, Stagekids and all the way up to the adult level,” said Mack who has also played “Motormouth Maybelle” in Hairspray and “Narrator” in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center (CPAC).

Pictured above is the “Green Cast” Annie played by 4th grader Claire Holtebeck.  “Claire has been singing, dancing and acting since she could move and speak,” commented her mom Lisa.  “In her free time, she makes up commercials and videotapes herself for YouTube.  Claire also loves playing soccer and hanging with friends and family.  She is VERY excited to be a part of ‘Annie’–a lifelong dream!”

The “Purple Cast” Annie is played by an eight year old Greta Dane from Cedarburg (pictured above).  Greta was also recently cast as the lead in a traveling theater group based out of Milwaukee, WI.  “Greta is a pretty amazing kid…I have raised her to believe that she can do anything she wants if she puts her mind to it and I have yet to see her prove me wrong.  She loves to sing and spends time composing her own songs.  She also plays and loves piano and got an electric guitar for her 8th birthday last month which she is slowly teaching herself how to play. Her role as Annie is her first shot at acting”, said her mom Sharon.

NSAA is now registering for their 2012 productions which include Stagekids Seussical (target ages 2nd through 8th grade), Aladdin Kids, Willy Wonka Kids and a brand new 30-minute comedy for the middle schooled called “School Daze”.    Online registration and discounts are now being offered on the NSAA website. www.northshoreacademyofthearts.org

NSAA Stagekids Present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. January 20-23

NSAA Stagekids will present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. at the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center (CPAC) January 20-23.  The 12:30pm matinee on 1/20 is already sold out leaving a 9:30am matinee on 1/20.

Other show times include 7pm on 1/21, 1pm and 7pm on 1/22 and 1pm on 1/23.  Tickets cost just $3 per child and $7 per adult.  The CPAC ticket box office number is 262.376.6161(Someone is usually in the box office M-F between 3 and 6pm.)

This time around, the leads will have a huge challenge.  Two casts (red and yellow) will be performing.  Each cast has a set of “leads”.  During the leads’ “off shows”, they will perform as chorus members.  Thus, all of our leads will be learning and performing two roles during the course of the weekend.  (This set-up is new to NSAA Stagekids.)

The casts are made up of 75 kids total from the Southeastern WI region ranging between the ages of 5 and 14.  NSAA has also partnered up with the Schauer Arts and Activities Center in Hartford, WI to present the same show at their location January 14 and 15 with an entirely separate “Hartford” cast.

NSAA Stagekids has been around for ten years and has produced at least two major shows per year.  Debbie Knuth has recently been promoted to the position of Stagekids Community Coordinator and Angela Mack has been promoted to the position of Stagekids Marketing Director.

NSAA has recently expanded by offering performing arts opportunities to adults.  Our last 2010 Spring adult/youth production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” was a huge success.  Our 2011 Spring adult/youth production will be “Hairspray”.  Auditions will be February 2 at NSAA (must pre-register).

We will be taking registrations for our next Stagekids Production of “Camp Rock” at the Beauty and the Beast shows.  Auditions will be held on January 31 at NSAA (must preregister).   Details on how to register can be found on our website http://www.northshoreacademyofthearts.org
