For Immediate Release

Contact:  NSAA Marketing Director and “Willy Wonka KIDS” Producer/Director Angela Mack angelam@northshoreacademyofthearts.org or call 262.377.3514

Photo opportunity:  Dress Rehearsal, Monday May 21 4:30-7pm, 1111 Broad Street, Grafton WI

(Grafton, WI)  The North Shore Academy of the Arts (NSAA) Jr. Stagekids will be presenting “Willy Wonka KIDS” on Wednesday May 30 at 5pm.  The 45 minute show is open to the public.  Donations will be collected at the door for admission.

“This particular show is unique because it is the first ‘Show in a Month’ that the performing arts department has tackled.  There were just four rehearsals at 2.5 hours each and then a dress rehearsal.  The children have worked very hard to memorize the material at home.  We thought we would like to try a shortened rehearsal time based on what other children’s theater companies have tried”, says Producer/Director Angela Mack.

The Jr. Stagekids Program is part of NSAA’s spiraling curriculum in the performing arts.  The Jr. Stagekids level is for ages 6 to 11 and helps to promote confidence, introductory acting, singing and choreography skills.  NSAA is currently enrolling for its summer Jr. Stagekids production, “Disney’s Winnie the Pooh”.  As with “Willy Wonka KIDS”, the show will be produced and directed by Angela Mack of Grafton.  Registrations are taken online through www.northshoreacademyofthearts.com.  The registrations office can be reached at info@northshoreacademyofthearts.org or 262.377.3514.

After several years in the Jr. Stagekids Program, young actors move up to the Stagekids level which is for grades 2 through 12.  Performances are held at the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center.  The students are taught by a team of professionals such as an acting coach, choreographer, vocal director, costume designer and more.  The final production is semi-professional and is performed for school groups as well as general audiences.  NSAA is currently enrolling for its 2012 production “Disney’s The Little Mermaid”.

“Roald Dahl’s timeless story of the world famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to life in this stage adaptation of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, which features the songs from the classic family film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The memorable score features “The Candy Man”, “Pure Imagination”, “Oompa Loompa” and ”I Want it Now” by Academy® and Grammy® award winners Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, neatly fitted into a new script adapted under the auspices of the Dahl Estate. With a flexible cast size, featuring roles for children and a tour-de-force role in the title character.” – MTI Shows

Fifty five southeastern Wisconsin children, ages 6 to 11, will be presenting the musical ANNIE Kids on December 5 at 5pm and 7pm.  The musical will be about 45 minutes long and held at the North Shore Academy of the Arts (NSAA), 1111 Broad Street Grafton, WI.  Admission is free and open to the public however donations will be collected at the door.

The NSAA Jr. Stagekids Program is directed by Angela Mack who is also the Marketing Director for NSAA.  “The Jr. Stagekids program is part of a spiraling and growing musical curriculum at NSAA.  Typically children enter through our Pre-K “Imagine Me” program, move onto “Stage-Kinder-Kids”, then Jr. Stagekids, Stagekids and all the way up to the adult level,” said Mack who has also played “Motormouth Maybelle” in Hairspray and “Narrator” in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center (CPAC).

Pictured above is the “Green Cast” Annie played by 4th grader Claire Holtebeck.  “Claire has been singing, dancing and acting since she could move and speak,” commented her mom Lisa.  “In her free time, she makes up commercials and videotapes herself for YouTube.  Claire also loves playing soccer and hanging with friends and family.  She is VERY excited to be a part of ‘Annie’–a lifelong dream!”

The “Purple Cast” Annie is played by an eight year old Greta Dane from Cedarburg (pictured above).  Greta was also recently cast as the lead in a traveling theater group based out of Milwaukee, WI.  “Greta is a pretty amazing kid…I have raised her to believe that she can do anything she wants if she puts her mind to it and I have yet to see her prove me wrong.  She loves to sing and spends time composing her own songs.  She also plays and loves piano and got an electric guitar for her 8th birthday last month which she is slowly teaching herself how to play. Her role as Annie is her first shot at acting”, said her mom Sharon.

NSAA is now registering for their 2012 productions which include Stagekids Seussical (target ages 2nd through 8th grade), Aladdin Kids, Willy Wonka Kids and a brand new 30-minute comedy for the middle schooled called “School Daze”.    Online registration and discounts are now being offered on the NSAA website. www.northshoreacademyofthearts.org
