Coming Soon: Unified Body Method™ Classes taught by Erik Knuth
Unified Body Method™, both a preventative practice and healing technique, is based on specific sequences of movement that assist in developing subtle awareness of the balance between body, breath and mind. With this complete awareness we focus on awakening the solar plexus, releasing contractions and regulating muscle tone. The gentle sequences are designed to introduce a broader range of neuro-pathways, increasing the intelligence of the body-mind connection. The Unified Body Method™ enables us to remain in sync with the laws of nature, eliminating duality so that we may live synergistically within our universe.

A Note From the Founder Of NSAA
Fueling creativity is among the many benefits of yoga and Unified Body Method™ classes. It begins with connecting… that of mind, body and breath. These classes have then proven for me to be a place to make other connections as well… spirit to spirit connections. It’s where I met Karen, the parent advisor of Kids for Kids, a volunteer group of young adults from Homestead High School (HHS) that work together to make a difference for those within or transitioning from the foster care system. The group was founded six years ago by Karen’s daughter, Rachel, when she and a few of her classmates learned of the plight of two local foster children.
So Karen and I connected, sharing the common bond of this class, and learning about each other–me about her involvement in this great cause, and she about my involvement in NSAA. Together, we created the 3mpower Program.
Once a month on Sundays, the Kids 4 Kids group of leaders from HHS gathers at NSAA to meet with a group of foster youth who travel north from Milwaukee’s inner city. Cooperatively, with NSAA staff, we work in all of the art’s media–exploring, uncovering, discovering–to tell the story of foster care, to empower on three levels: the HHS students, empowered to make a difference in the lives of foster youth; the foster youth, empowered to tell their story; and the public, empowered by knowledge about foster care when they will be invited to attend the final show–a gathering to share creative expression.
It has already been a tremendously rewarding experience, watching these two groups of young spirits from diverse backgrounds connect, working together through the arts. Sometimes, getting everyone engaged takes creativity, as some of these youth are struggling with basic needs–securing their next meal or a place to sleep at night. But soon after they enter NSAA’s doors, magic happens, and just for a few hours, there’s a new focus. Painting, drawing, writing original poetry, creating music, sculpting…together, these young people share the message that learning about differences connects us to how similar we all really are. Connections.
Foster Care Month is in May. Stay tuned to learn when we will present Project 3mpower’s final exhibition. I imagine if you come, you and your family may be inspired, learning a little more about a group of people who struggle without the same benefits of a close family as we do. But also about how the arts can help close a gap called diversity. We all have creativity from within, and while expressed in own individual manner, it’s a connection we hold common. No matter what language we speak, the arts are universal.
Also, you might be inspired to try a yoga/Unified Body Method™ class. It’s no doubt, a form of art. It fuels creativity. And You never know what kind of connections you’ll make.

I’m so proud of the cast and crew of Beauty and the Beast, both the CPAC team and the Schauer Center Team! When I see everyone working together I’m reminded again about the impact of our mission– to reach even beyond the arts.
We are nearing our grand opening of the Arts Mill. I look forward to our community enjoying this new division of NSAA. We still have opportunities to volunteer and donate. There are two naming rights still available. (Send me an email if you are interested in learning more about this sherib@northshoreacademyofthearts.org).
Our Kids4Kids project will be launched soon. Kids4Kids is a program where Homestead High School Students work together with the mission of helping foster kids. We will be joining them in an exciting venture that will culminate in a presentation for the community. Stay tuned for more information.
Camp Rock and Hairspray are beginning within the next two weeks. I’m looking forward to being more involved in these shows as our focus at NSAA continues to be on programming through enriching opportunities.
Visual Arts, Imagine Me, Dance Classes, Zumba, upcoming UBM and Yoga, CCC and Paul McGill. (He’s coming this Monday–you won’t want to miss it)….we strive to offer you a wide array of opportunities in the arts so that there is something for everyone!
As winter continues to blow its beauty, I hope you are able to find the moments to appreciate your unique creativity and how it helps you to see the world in vivid light.
“When we are writing, or painting, or composing, we are, during the time of creativity, freed from normal restrictions, and are opened to a wider world, where colors are brighter, sounds clearer, and people more wondrously complex than we normally realize.”– Madeleine L’Engle

A Note from the Founder/President, Sheri Bestor
Our Performing Arts Department along with our StageKids shows have reached thousands of children and hundreds of families over the years. We are continuing to work on improving our performing arts offerings through developing our dance department, refining our StageKids curriculum and setting a goal of upgrading our theatre, music room and recording studio.
We are focussing our energies equally towards the Visual and Literary Arts Departments and are excited to move forward toward one of our goals of having studio and gallery space to showcase art work and host special events.
I am proud to announce the expansion to a brand new NSAA “sister site”, The Arts Mill, a division of NSAA. This will be located in the Historic Grafton Mill on the second and third floors. Not only is the river setting beautiful but the historic character gives it an “East Side” or “Third Ward” feeling. The new location is conveniently just a few blocks from NSAA and will help bring a focus of the arts to the Grafton area.
I am equally as proud to announce that NSAA Programming Director, Paula Christensen is taking on the position and title of Director of this site. Her background, talents and experience in the visual arts will be an integral part of the success of this development along with the fantastic team of staff, board members and volunteers at NSAA.
Ten years ago, we began NSAA at the Historic Grafton Mill. We have come full circle to reside there once again, as we move into our second decade of service to our community. We are especially grateful to the Village of Grafton, Kapco, Neil Willenson and others who have and are supporting us in this journey.
The current Broad Street facility will remain the home site of NSAA. The new facility will contain an emphasis on the visual arts, special events and will be available to cooperating organizations such as Balancing Arts and other community groups.
While we are excited for this venture, we realize that this growth is not only a wish but a necessity. Due to the current economic climate, NSAA is struggling in ways it hasn’t before. We believe this expansion of The Arts Mill will not only help offer much needed opportunities to the community but will aid in helping NSAA move to the next level. Please stay tuned for updates on this project.
We are looking forward to working together to make NSAA a strength to the community for years to come. If you’d like to get involved or are interested in studio space please contact Paula paulac@northshoreacademyofthearts.org
Thank you for your continued support.

NSAA is proud to accept the generous donation of a portion of the tuition from the yoga class held at one of our “friends of NSAA’–Get Centered. Please see below and help build our scholarship program!

Give to yourself as you give to others.
‘Tis the Season to be Joyful…and what better way but to begin the day than with gentle movements and invigorating asanas that release contractions and awaken your body, breath and spirit. Unified body method movements and classical yoga asanas as well as meditation and breathing techniques will bring you peace and energy to carry within you for a beautiful, joyful day. As you nurture your mind, body and spirit by giving this time to yourself, a portion of the proceeds from each class will be donated to North Shore Academy of the Arts, Inc., a non-profit organization and “friend” of Get Centered, for scholarships to help nurture the creativity in young artists who can’t afford such opportunities on their own. $13 per class/GC passes accepted.

One of the marks of a great leader is that they never stop learning and developing themselves. NSAA CEO, Sheri Bestor, has always had a passion for continuing education as well as “embracing the new”. Within the past several years, she has discovered a new appreciation for yoga and alternative healing methods which have helped bring balance to her busy lifestyle as NSAA CEO, Musical Producer/Director, wife and mother of three girls.
Her professional learning experiences include earning a MA in Curriculum and Instruction, a BS degree in Education, founding North Shore Academy of the Arts, working as a business consultant, a teacher, and becoming a published author and freelance writer.
Sheri recently followed her passion for learning and completed the 200 hour Yoga teacher training program through the Himalayan Institute. In addition, she has become a Reiki MA, became certified in meditation and is studying sound therapy.
Sheri is a student of Unified Body Method ™ as developed by Erik B. Knuth She is currently assisting as a contributing writer in the development of the upcoming Unified Body ™ Teacher Training Program.
Sheri will be teaching yoga classes for adults and teens at Get Centered in Thiensville. Get Centered has been just one of the business friendships that has contributed to NSAA.
Sheri’s mission is:
“to teach from my heart through experience, as I share this practice that has had such a profound effect in my life, so that it might inspire others to seek, learn, awaken and discover, while embodying life in all its beauty and joy.”
